Skilled Visa

General Skilled Migration (GSM) is often referred to as the "points tested" Visa. It is the largest component of Skilled Streams of the Australia's Immigration Programme and is the largest single component of the Australian Migration Programme.

The GSM has a high level of "threshold" that all applicants must meet. These thresholds include:

  • Skills assessment in a nominated occupation on the Skilled Occupations List, often referred to as SOL.
  • Age in general; applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 44 years of age.
  • IELTS Tested (International English Language Testing System); most applicants will need to sit for a formal English language test.
  • Recent employment in a skilled occupation or completion of two years of study in Australia.

Professionals and Other Skilled Migrants

Overview

This programme, also known as the General Skilled Migration programme, is for people who are not sponsored by an employer but have skills in particular occupations required in Australia. Applicants must be over 18 and under 45 years of age, with good English language ability, and recent skilled work experience or a recently completed eligible Australian qualification.

Applicants must also have skills and qualifications for an occupation listed on Australia's Skilled Occupation List (SOL).
